Website URL
- Looked at other websites for codes and conventions
- Looked at other websites of the same genre
- Looked at websites in general
- Looked at layouts of websites and how or what types of information shared a page.
When planning I;
- Kept in mind the layout of the websites I had looked at
- Kept in mind the font style I used, this was to make it easier to read.
When it came to choosing the name I had to create a poll on my blog. I had three choices, these where; Cookstienclerk, King Cooking and Mixture Cooking. After my audience voted the name chosen was Cookstienclerk. Each of the three names had four different font styles. When I picked the one to use I didn’t ask the audience I choose it because it looked sophisticated as well as readable.
Before I had started to plan out my work I had done a small poll on my blog. This asked the perspective audience what they wanted to see and what should be created. There where a few obvious things that I had to make sure where done no matter what difficulty they where. However, they where just simple things such as; readable text and viewable graphics and images. Some images also needed to be self explanatory. I also had to include a short video as part of the site. I didn’t know what type of video to first create so I did a poll again on my blog. This helped me decide to do a cake video, this is because 62% of my audience prefer to cook deserts and cakes. This video turned out well however was slightly short so I therefore made a second on how to cook Chicken and Sweet Corn soup.
In my planning I knew there where certain things had to be done in my site. The text had to be simple, images had to be self explanatory. I had to include a video as part of my brief however I didn’t know what type of video to create. This is where the a poll on blogger came in. When I did this the question I asked was “What would you rather cook?”. The answers I gave as a choice was “Main course, Deserts, Starters”. My audience favorite was desert. 62% of them said they would rather cook cakes and deserts than main course’s or starters. This is when I choose to do a cake video, however, this was not enough. I then decided to create a second video. This was of a soup being made. I choose soup because 28% of my audience like to cook soups and starters.
In my planning I also looked at other websites. I found a lot of conventions of websites such as; Jakob Nielson’s 10 Heuristics. This is only four. The others are all on my blog and explained.
- Visibility of Systems Status; The system should always tell the user what is going on so that they don't become inpatient with the system.
- Match between system and the real world; The system should use terms and language the users know. It should use real world conventions and appear in a correct order.
- User Control and Freedom; If a user clicks on an unwanted connection there should be a clear way back to the original site. This means easy undo and redo.
- Consistency and Standards; Things should be easy to understand, straight forward and constant.
- Error Prevention; Evan though there are error messages that pop up there should be a system that prevents the error from even occurring. The system should search for errors before the user continues to the site, and then it should still give them an option or alert them a error may occur.
- Recognition rather then Recall; The options should be clear at every point of the site. This will help the user minimize their memory load. This is because they will not have to remember one thing to another. Instructions for direction and use of the system should be clearly shown and also visible where ever the user is on site.
- Flexibility and efficiency of use; This could be an unseen device seen device by he user of the programme. This could be an accelerator for example, it could often speed up the interaction of the system and could also boost the rate at which the computer runs.
- Aesthetic and minimalist design; The programme should not have any written text that is not necessary or rarely needed. It should also minimize the amount of unneeded text to free up space the more relevant stuff.
- Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors ; When a problem is found they should be explained to the user in plain language no coding. They should also explain how to resolve the problem of automatically try to tackle it.
- Help and Documentation; Although a lot of sites use documentation for help this often gets in the way of what we want. This information should be either hidden away, or made smaller for the user to look for. How ever nothing should go wrong on the site so help information should not be needed much.
When I was looking at different cooking sites I also found that they are bright and colourfull. This is what gave me the idea of making each page a different colour. My audience was thought of right through the production. I am aiming my website, videos and ancillary texts at students, those who are just leaving home maybe going to university. I am also hoping that my media texts will attract some of the older audience. This will hopefully be shown in my audience feedback as I have asked a few questions about their occupation and age.
I would say I have achieved my goals set by the audience because I have done the videos they voted for most. I have also added the recipes to the video. I have also added a little information on the site about the foods and also chefs.
I choose to get two adults to do my cooking because they are more experienced at it than me. They also get the product done and the item being cooked does not go wrong, or end up burnt. The adults are also helping me with my audience. This is because they will attract adults to the website as they are adults them selves. I choose to add in a page called “Cakes” this was simply because I was making a video about hoe to cook a cake therefore I made this page. The soup video has been added to the page of “Starter” because when I created this website my initial aim was not to do a second video however it was the audiences request and I thought that just one video was not long enough.
My audience research shows me that; This audience feedback shows that most of my audience where males. This surprised me a lot. Other questions I asked where ones such as; their age. I found that most of them where young however some where aged 20-25. Some of my audience where 30+.
This shows what the audience thought to the pace of my videos. Most of them say it was fine however a small section say that it was to fast and some slightly. I will use this for future reference when creating a website.
My product challenges its forms as it changes colour on each page. It continues the same house style just changes colour through Hue. Most cooking websites have about 2-5 videos where as mine only has two. I have the cake one and a soup one. When looking around some other web pages and I have noticed that they have blogs. This is another difference to mine as I have not created a blog or a comment page; however, I have created a contact point with an email link.
On the other hand my media product uses some of the conventions as it uses the second Heuristic of Jakob Neilson. This is that the language it is written in is able to be understood by the reader. My site also includes User Control and Freedom. This allows them to go back to another page once they have clicked something especially if they didn’t want to be on this page. There are also characteristics in my page such as; Aesthetic and minimalist design. This is basically saying that there should not be a lot of text taking up the space. It should only be what is relevant to that page.
My ancillary test 1 is a T.V Ident. This does not link with my website however it has the title of the programme and a pie to represent cooking. My second ancillary text is a newspaper advertisement. This had to show people what was being created on my website, and inform then how they can watch this channel for any cooking tips. I have stated on my newspaper advertisement that my channel will be on “Sky” and “Free View”. I have chosen these two place to have my channel on these two stations because they are the ones most viewed today.
In my construction I used a Sony DCR-SX-33E camera. I then went out and filmed all my footage and my sound / voiceovers. Once I had done this I used Adobe Editing suites in college and re-named all my clips. This helped me place them on to my storyline in the correct order. It took me a while to do this however I finally got it done. I then had to match the correct voiceovers with the correct clips. This was easy, however, took longer than I thought. When I had done my two videos I needed to create a website I did this using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. This helped me create all 25 pages however not all my pages have information on. When I had done as much as I could I decided to look at some free hosting sites. I then “Oat Box” when I had uploaded everything from pictures to videos to all the images within my site I started to give you my URL. When I did this I also asked people to fill in a small questionnaire, and my audience feedback was created.
To create my second ancillary text I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 and designed it on there. It took me a while to get the back ground sorted because I didn’t know whether to have it plain or patterned. I choose to have a small swirl as the background and only a small amount of text because I didn’t want to over run the readers mind with information in a small advertisement.
When conducting my research my main source was the internet. I used this for research on different web pages such as the cooking websites I looked at and analysed. I also used the internet to look at Jakob Nielson; 20 Heuristics. I also used the internet for my Blog. I used blog to present my work and show what I have done step by step. This worked very well.
I used a programme called inspiration to make my navigation plan. When I set out to do my website I was only aiming to do a maximum of five pages. However when creating my plan I ended with 25 pages and they all seemed to be necessary. I did not get all my pages done sadly. To evaluate my work I did some audience questionnaires and some online polls. My online polls helped me right at the start as the audience stated what I should type of video I should create.

Final Videos.
This is my final cake video.
This is my final soup video.
I have edited both videos and added a voiceover to both, this is to help the viewer when trying to follow them. They can stop and start the video.
They would also be able to follow what is being said by the persons voiceover the video.

Evaluation. (start)
Compared to my AS brief this is difficult. For AS I had to create a music magazine cover, a contents page and double page spread. The only similarity between the two tasks was, the pictures, text and any footage had to be original.
For research and planning I;
Looked at other websites for codes and conventions
Looked at other websites of the same genre
Looked at websites in general
Looked at layouts of websites and how or what types of information shared a page.
When planning I;
Kept in mind the layout of the websites I had looked at
Kept in mind the font style I used, this was to make it easier to read.

My audience was thought of right through the production. I am aiming it at students just leaving home maybe going to university. My website of cooking videos may be aimed at those who like to explore and look at different things to cook.

Script for Cake Video.
00:00 Right here we have the butter and I am going to now add the sugar.
00:03 I am now going to whisk the butter and sugar together.
00:07 Once this is done I will add 3 teaspoons of baking powder to my flour. I will then add this to my butter and sugar mix what I have just done.
00:15 I will then add two eggs and three teaspoon of Vanilla Flavouring to my butter, sugar, flour and baking powder mix.
00:40 I will now whisk this all together.
00:58 I will now sieve in some more flour to the mixture I already have and to get rid of the lumps in the flour use the back of a spoon to get rid.
01:18 I will now add another two eggs in to the mixture and then again whisk in.
01:45 will now use the spatula to collect the mixture off the side of the bowl.
01:53 Here I have a foiled tin which I did before hand. I will pour the mixture into this tin.
02:17 I have tipped all the mixture into the tin I will now spread it to the edge this will make the cake rise at an equal height.
02:30 Now to make the butter icing.
02:34 I have a bowl of butter again this time I am just going to whisk it straight away before I add anything.
02:49 will now add the icing sugar to make the cream which will go ion the middle of the cake.
03:07 I will now stir the icing sugar and the butter.
03:12 Te sponge has now cooked. I am going to cut it in half this will allow the jam and cream centre to be made.
03:30 Here I am applying the jam to one half and I will apply the cream to the other.
03:57 Here I have done all the cream I will now place both pieces together with the jam and cream together.
04:10 I now have my cake together I will now put cream around the edge and this will help my icing stick.
04:53 I am also putting some jam on the top again this will help the icing stick.
05:03 I am now rolling out the icing. It can be either ready rolled or rolled your self.
05:14 The icing is then placed on the cake and this is now ready to be decorated.
05:30 I am not going to start decorating the cake. Here I am using piped icing to create a floral pull effect on the bottom of the cake.
05:50 I have done the same thing on the top of the cake here. However I have pressed down on the floral effect instead of pulled it.
06:10 Here I am attaching a red birthday ribbon this is just part of the decorating stage you can do what ever you want.
06:37 Here I am now adding on some little candy balls, again for decoration. I have also put on some little chocolate stars.
07:00 I am adding more icing droplets this is to create the flower on the top.
07:10 Here I have painted a Whinnie the pooh on some sugar paper with food paints.
07:22 Here the Whinnie The Pooh has been cut out and left 2 dry. I have put icing on the back which will help the character stick to the cake.
07:40 I am also going to pipe a message onto the cake at this stage.
07:54 The cake is done at this point, the two candles have been added.
However this may change a little again as I think some of the clips may need editing. This needs adding to my video and the updated video will then be posted onto my blogg.
