This web site is all about cakes and has many pages. The navigation bar lets me navigate my way around the site easily and when I want to change page the link stays bold and gets slightly larger as I click it. This lets me know that the website is working towards my needs. This also lets me know that the site is working and trying to load what I want. I now know not to get impatient as it is doing what I want.
The navigation bar across the top of the website is all about getting me where I want to be. This is set out in a conventional way as contact us is the last thing you would expect to see on a website. The entire navigation bar also follows conventions as when you look on most sites the gallery or the about pages are the first that you would look at. On this website when the user clicks on a link that either takes you off this web page or onto another site altogether it opens it in another window. This is then easier to escape as the solution is to close this separate window that has appeared. However if you close a link that has been opens in another window then the only way to redo is to click on the link back on the original website.
This website is very consistent. The text is one colour right through the site; the head banner is also consistent through the site. The head banner is blue with the text cut out in white. Another consistent feature on the Charm City Cakes site is that the main story or feature albeit the gallery is on the left hand side of the page and two linking stories are on the right and a pale orange box. This website is good for a reader’s memory space as it keeps all the options on show and in the same space every time the page changes. When a reader looks at this text it is easy to follow as it is paragraphed and also lets you see what you want. This site runs quite quickly and when changing images there is a little loading circle which shows us its loading the next image.
The Charm City Cakes site also keeps its information to the minimum. This is because they want to keep the readers attention. This site has little white space around as it is only short pages where needed. There is only one long page this is the "ORDER/FAQ" page. There are a few different sections and each one is about some thing different, and separated by a thin orange line. The title of each section is also separated by orange lines and the text again is black and easy to read. The images on this site are all very clear and show what goes on in the shop there are no videos or any thing the user can attract with. This site has a separate page for help and information. This is called “ABOUT” and has an average amount of writing upon it. This amount of writing is suitable as too little will loose readers interest and too much will put them off.
Charm City Cakes is ran from a server that is not theirs. Their website is create and ran by Mission Media. This may be why the website runs faster and could possibly explain the acceleration of the site.
